Die Akademie für gesprochenes Wort wurde 1993 als private Stiftung von Prof. Uta Kutter gegründet und ist auf den Feldern der Kunst und Kultur sowie der Wissenschaft und Bildung tätig.
Die Bibliothek der Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung ist heute eine der weltweit grössten wissenschaftlichen Spezialbibliotheken mit den Sammelschwerpunkten deutsche und internationale Arbeiterbewegung, deutsche und internationale Sozial- und Zeitgeschichte, Veröffentlichungen von Parteien und Gewerkschaften in Deutschland und ausgewählten Ländern.
