Abstract

Mechanical oscillations in electromechanical systems are often limiting thebandwidth and therefore the accuracy of the system. To achieve high accuracyand high dynamics, the systems position has to be acquired with incrementalencoders and the controller algorithms have to be calculated at high samplerates. On the other hand, both the encoders and the high sample rate arecausing errors in the position and velocity value. These errors are leading tomechanical movements of the drive system because of its high dynamic. Thisarticle is presenting different ways to reduce these mechanical movements inorder to increase the accuracy to decrease the noise of the entire system. Thefirst method is acquiring the encoder’s analog signals at a higher sample rateand is calculating a set of state variables with fewer errors. The secondmethod makes use of an additional Ferraris-sensor to acquire the drivesacceleration and a third method is using a modified Ferraris sensor for activedamping of the system.
