As such, it presents an overview of one of the least researched cases of 20th century massive exile in the Americas, and traces the case of Rafael Barrett (1876-1910), a key figure of Paraguayan letters, and his descendants. Analyzing the case of the Barrett family –in which three ge-nerations experienced forced displacement from their country–, this study suggests the relevance of research into transnational and multi-generational aspects of the exile experience in the Americas.
