Abstract
For sealing of higher pressure at a rotating shaft conventional elastomeric or PTFE-seals can only be applied at low sliding velocity. Up to now a mechanical seal was the only possibility of reliably sealing a pressure up to 3 MPa at a sliding velocity of 5 ... 10 mls. This paper presents a new, pressure-balanced shaft seal called „Entlasteter Wellengichtring (EWDR)“ /1/, which has been proved to correctly operate in laboratory tests at pressure up to 3 MPa and surface speed up to 12 mls.
