Abstract

In this work the implementation of the polyatomic chemistry model in PICLas is shown, verified and validated. This implemented chemistry model is based on the Arrhenius equations and covers dissociation, recombination and exchange reactions of neutral particles. The implementation discussed in this thesis is verified against reservoir simulations of poly-atomic gases like CH 4 and CO 2 , which are present during re-entry on Mars and the Saturn moon Titan. In the last step the code is validated comparing simulations to experimental shock-tube results of dilute CO 2 in Ar.
