Abstract

Abstract Quantum computing is a promising new computing paradigm that may yield both significant speedup over classical algorithms as well as new ways to think about problems and finding novel solution algorithms. While large-scale error-corrected quantum computers are still under development, a selection of noisy intermediate-scale quantum processing units is readily made available by some companies via cloud access. Despite the lack of error correction, these units can be used to test established quantum algorithms on custom problem setups. Here, we solve the finite element problem of a two-dimensional cantilever, completely fixed on one side and loaded on the opposite side, on a 15-qubit QPU from IBM.
