Abstract
The heterodinuclear complex ion [LCu(dppf)]+ contains the as yet unrecognized strong p-acceptor system N:N- C:O, which is involved in a charge-transfer interaction with the copper center but is not reduced through full electron transfer. This situation is likely caused by steric hindrance and the donor function of the dialkylamino substituents on the C:O carbon atom. Thus, reaction of [Cu(dppf)(MeCN)2](BF4) with azodicarboxalic acid dipeperidide in CH2Cl2 gave 55\% [CuI(adc-pip)(dppf)](BF4) (I). The crystal structure and electrochem. of I was discussed.
