Zusammenfassung

In deep penetration laser welding, the geometry of the capillary and thereby the incoupling of the laser power are strongly dependent on the feed rate. The dependence of the capillary-geometry on the feed rate was investigated at laser power of up to 16 kW with online X-Ray videography. Quasi-3D geometries of the capillary were reconstructed from the acquired high-speed videos for welding of aluminium at welding depths of 1.5 mm. The spot diameter was varied from 200 µm up to 1360 µm. Both, the total absorptance of the laser power and the local distribution of the absorbed irradiance inside of the capillaries were calculated by means of ray-tracing. The influence of feed rates up to 50 m/min on the process efficiency is discussed.
