The first part of the paper outlines the background of thedevelopments in NC manufacturing including technological, software andhardware. The authors then provide a brief view of the state-of-the-art ofinteroperability in each of their respective research communities withemphasis on their own area of expertise and processes. Finally these viewsare consolidated and discussed to identify the future areas of research forrealizing global interoperable manufacturing.
