Abstract

Pulsating interior pressure in components of Driving Technology leads to the fact, that screwing components are additionally extended, thus relaxing pressure on loaded parts. This dynamic process has a particularly negative effect on the seal. The seal is relaxed additionally in zones of low area pressure, or might even be expelled. Housing parts with low stiffness are increasingly deformed producing gaps and splitting, what in the worst case may lead to leakage. The Institute for Machine Elements has been active for many years in the examination of dynamically highly loaded sealing areas. The sealing areas at are basically loaded with a torque. In this field of research, principal examinations at flange connections that have been designed according to lightweight construction have been realised. Due to the lightweight construction, increased relative movements at the sealing plane take place, provoking damage of the sealing material. For the experimental tests at the gear boxes several test rigs were set-up. Cases for application of flat gaskets in the field of Driving Technology that are loaded with pulsating interior pressure, are hydraulic controls, as, for instance, control plates for automatic automobile transmission, as well as pumps for secondary aggregates of gears. Figure 1 shows the location of the control box with the channel plate of an automatic transmission.
