Abstract

Because of high friction and wear rubber seals and PTFE seals scarcely are applied on rotaling shafts under high fluid pressure. The paper describes a new seal configuration in which a sealing ring is undulated by the pressure while in axial contact with an undulated back-up ring, whereby lubrication is effectively improved. Experimental results wilh rubber O-rings and optimally shaped PTFE seals under high pressure and medium sliding speed are presented.
