Abstract

Most bridging ligands used hitherto for stabilizing mixed-valent intermediates and thus studying metal-metal communication have been bis-monodentate or bis-bidentate. Bis-tridentate systems have mainly relied on conjugatively coupled terpyridine (terpy) moieties. Combining the azodicarbonyl bis-bidentate coordination function with addnl. 2-pyridyl groups we have managed to obtain a ligand precursor, 1,2-bis(2-pyridylcarbonyl)hydrazine, which, after deprotonation, can bind two metal complex fragments such as (terpy)Run+, n=2 or 3, in a m-h3:h3 fashion. The results from electrochem. and spectroscopic studies will be presented and compared to those obtained with corresponding bis-bidentate bridges. on SciFinder(R)
