Abstract
Small and medium-sized entreprises (SMEs) are drivers of the European economy. They develop and produce highly innovative products, processes and services in key markets. In many cases, SMEs need to involve partners to tap the potential of new technologies, to open up market opportunities or to extend production capabilities. Thus, efficient networking and interoperability with other organisations has become tremendously important. Concepts like extended enterprise, virtual enterprise and other forms of dynamic networks describe the mechanisms of such collaboration. However, support for implementing the concepts into industrial practice is still not completely covered. Within this paper, the industrial model of Smart Networks will be introduced and ways for its implementation in practice will be shown. Success stories from various industry sectors will affirm the proposed methods and tools.
