Abstract
Tetrakisbis(trimethylsilyl)methyldialane(4) (1) with an Al-Al bond reacts with Na or K in 1,2-dimethoxyethane to yield dark blue radical monoanions R2Al-AlR2·-, which are quite persistent after recrystn. and can be characterized spectroscopically (ESR, UV-visible, IR) as p-radicals. Surprisingly, similar compds. are formed by the single electron transfer reaction of 1 with neopentyl- or (trimethylsilylmethyl)lithium in the presence of the chelating N,N,N',N'-tetramethylethylenediamine. on SciFinder(R)
