Gegenüberstellung und Bewertung verschiedener Mobilitätskonzepte für IP

. Universität Stuttgart, Institut für Nachrichtenvermittlung und Datenverarbeitung, Studienarbeit, (August 2000)

Abstract

The protocols in the TCP/IP protocol suite used for Internet communication do not support mobile end systems by themselves. Encouraged by the growth of the Internet and by technological advance in the fields of wireless communications as well as mobile computing, a whole series of new protocols has been proposed in the recent years in order to provide mobility support for IP networks. This thesis gives an introduction into two protocols for IP mobility support that use different basic approaches. For each protocol an implementation has been installed in the IND network laboratory: the implementation of the Mobile IP protocol from Stanford University and the Cellular IP implementation from Columbia University. Special measurement software was used to investigate performance of these protocols, particularly with regard to packet loss caused by handovers between two Internet access points.
