Abstract

The new ligand 3,6-bis(2-pyrazinyl)-1,2,4,5-tetrazine (bpztz) was synthesized, structurally characterized, and reacted with Re(CO)5Cl to the dinuclear (m-bpztz)Re(CO)3Cl2. Crystal structure anal. (P21/c, a 12.9965(5), b 5.6349(2), c 6.9025(3), b 92.511(2)°, Z = 2, 1160 independent reflections, R1 = 0.0803, wR2 = 0.1579 (all data), another structure soln. with a higher R-value is also given) exhibits a fac-tricarbonyl arrangement and the coordination of each metal atom by one N atom from the tetrazine ring and by N1 of pyrazine. The N4 atoms of the pyrazine rings remain free. The chloride ligands adopt a syn-position relative to the central ligand plane, in contrast to the related complex (m-abpy)Re(CO)3Cl2 (abpy = 2,2'-azobispyridine). Reversible redn. to the IR and ESR spectroelectrochem. detectable (m-bpztz)Re(CO)3Cl2·- occurs at a potential of -0.31 V vs. ferrocene. on SciFinder(R)
