Conducted in Pichincha, Ecuador, from October 15, 2021, to January 15, 2022, and November 16, 2022, to February 28, 2023, this exercise explored the co-design potential between humans, non-human entities, and machines. Using Rhino Grasshopper, we created an evolutionary algorithm to shape wax films for bee-integrated 3D printing. The iterative process depended on ecological timelines and environmental conditions, evolving with bees' natural behavior and climate factors. This approach emphasizes non-human-centric design, highlighting the roles of temperature, humidity, and flowering plant availability. While not for immediate application, this exercise speculates on future design with non-human entities, showcasing the synergy of digital, human, and biological inputs and promoting post-anthropocentric design practices.</swrc:abstract><swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:Field swrc:value="Barcelona, Spain" swrc:key="venue"/></swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:Field swrc:value="ISBN 978-9915-9635-2-5" swrc:key="isbn"/></swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:Field swrc:value="13-15 November 2024" swrc:key="eventdate"/></swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:Field swrc:value="https://doi.org/10.52842/conf.sigradi.2024.2227" swrc:key="doi"/></swrc:hasExtraField><swrc:author><rdf:Seq><rdf:_1><swrc:Person swrc:name="María Claudia Valverde Rojas"/></rdf:_1><rdf:_2><swrc:Person swrc:name="Oscar Andrés Cuervo"/></rdf:_2></rdf:Seq></swrc:author></rdf:Description><rdf:Description rdf:about="https://puma.ub.uni-stuttgart.de/bibtex/24037b3c981ef071a774e8a7633544abd/itke"><owl:sameAs rdf:resource="/uri/bibtex/24037b3c981ef071a774e8a7633544abd/itke"/><rdf:type rdf:resource="http://swrc.ontoware.org/ontology#Proceedings"/><swrc:date>Thu Feb 26 15:31:59 CET 2026</swrc:date><swrc:booktitle> Biodigital Intelligent Systems - Proceedings of the XXVIII Conference of the Iberoamerican Society of Digital Graphics (SIGraDi 2024) </swrc:booktitle><swrc:pages>2227–2238</swrc:pages><swrc:title>Co-designing with the Swarm: Bee-Fabricated morphologies via evolutionary algorithms</swrc:title><swrc:year>2024</swrc:year><swrc:keywords>valverde rojas cuervo 2024 morphologies Fabrication itke Post-Anthropocentric co-dedign evolutionary Bio-digital algorithm bees </swrc:keywords><swrc:abstract>In the context of pandemic restrictions and the need for climate change adaptation, our academic exercise ventured into Biodesign by engaging honeybees in a co-design framework.
