"volume": "12","number": "23","pages": "3973","abstract": "Combining two high-performance materials\u2014ultra-high-performance concrete (UHPC)\nas the matrix and carbon-fibre-reinforced composites (CFRP) as the reinforcement\u2014opens up new\npossibilities for achieving very lightweight thin-walled concrete elements. This strategy, however,\nleads to a higher degree of material utilisation, resulting in the generation of higher forces around load\nintroduction points and supports. The authors present a solution for increasing the performance of\nsupports of very slender CFRP-reinforced UHPC beams by using metal implants. Implants are used in\nplace of concrete in regions of stress concentrations and significant deviation forces. These are able to\ntransfer high stresses and forces e ciently due to their ability to sustain both tension and compression\nin equal measure. A key issue in their development is the interface between the reinforced concrete\nand metal implant. Building on previous research, this paper deals with the conceptual design of three\ntypes of implants manufactured from di erent metals and with three di erent types of automated\nproduction technologies (water-jet cutting, metal casting with a 3D-printed plastic formwork and\nbinder jetting of steel components). For this paper, tests were carried out to determine the load-bearing\nbehaviour of beams with the three di erent types of support implants used for load introduction at\nthe supports. A carbon rod served as bending reinforcement and a pre-formed textile reinforcement\ncage served as shear and constructive reinforcement.",

Cylindrical surfaces constitute one of the typical geometric sets obtained with the FRP component fabrication. This paper explores the influences of two geometric parameters on the buckling performance of elliptical cylinders: inverse slenderness (ratio of minimum diameter to height) and eccentricity (ratio of radii along semi-axes). The overall stiffness properties are defined using lamination parameters. This analysis method eliminates the dependency of optimal solutions on the initial assumptions regarding the laminate configuration, which needs to be explicitly described in multi-layer modeling. Finite element analyses are utilized to compute buckling loads of the cylinders under axial compression force and bi-axial bending moments. The optimal lamination parameters and buckling stresses are determined for various parameters, and the lamination parameters corresponding to the optimal and simple [±45°] angle-ply design points are presented in the lamination parameter plane via Miki's diagram. The results reveal the level of performance that can be achieved by a specific geometry and provide guidelines for the optimal design of elliptical laminated cylinders against buckling.",
