145
103730
This paper studies the causal effect of transport infrastructure on the spatial distribution of economic activity within subnational regions across a large number of developing countries. To do so, we introduce a new global dataset of geolocated Chinese grant- and loan-financed development projects from 2000 to 2014 and combine it with measures of spatial concentration based on remotely sensed data. We find that Chinese-financed transportation projects decentralize economic activity within regions, as measured by a spatial Gini coefficient, by 2.2 percentage points. The treatment effects are particularly strong in regions that are less developed, more urbanized, and located closer to cities.
14
12
Educational policy and research demand evidence-orientation from teachers in their professional activities. However, how teachers should integrate this requirement into their everyday work remains controversial. The resources available to teachers—above all time—play a central role. Teachers are a very heterogeneous professional group that differs at least in terms of the subjects they teach. Using teacher data from PISA 2022, this study explores: (1) whether mathematics teachers differ from others in reading work-related literature, (2) whether there are distinct types of mathematics teachers based on time investment during a regular workweek, (3) how these types differ in mental health, job satisfaction, collaboration, and training needs, including the respective role of reading work-related literature, and (4) what conclusions can be drawn for education policy and practice. Data from 2516 teachers in Germany were analyzed using K-means clustering, mean comparisons, and Chi2 tests to compare mathematics teachers with other subject teachers and examine time allocation with respect to the engagement in reading work-related literature. The results highlight the importance of categorizing teachers into specific subgroups and considering various factors affecting their teaching and commitment in professional development. For mathematics teachers, the findings offer initial insights into how their time investment impacts their ability to engage with work-related literature and the unique challenges they face. This has implications for their professional development and support.",

Dabei sollte u. a.
71
9496-9509
Competitive pressure, individualization, and constantly advancing technologies require manufacturers to gain
knowledge about their customers to offer well-adapted solutions.
Despite being an indispensable resource for achieving a competitive advantage, managing customer knowledge is an enormous
challenge that quickly becomes a complexity trap, unless targeted
processes are available. From the literature, it is known that the
target-oriented knowledge management systems are required to
map knowledge structures, which help to improve the organizational knowledge lifecycle and advance organizational learning. In
this article, we extend research on the intersection of knowledge
management and customer integration by proposing a framework
for the persistent representation of customer knowledge for product development. This allows companies to integrate customer
knowledge into development processes, adding value, and also
leading to organizational learning from the knowledge-based view.
Knowledge management systems with respect to the customer
knowledge are relatively unexplored, and the literature on knowledge management often lacks empirical data. Empirical data are
collected through a case study of a leading commercial vehicle
manufacturer to explore the link between customer integration
and knowledge management. Practitioners are provided with a
practice-oriented concept that offers guidance on how to structure a
knowledge representation from the company’s point of view, aiming
at achieving a competitive advantage.
The goal of this ongoing research is the development of a novel, digital, modular wood building system, which allows for open-plan, flexible spaces and bespoke architectural solutions. This paper presents a comparison of two new timber building systems for multi-storey construction. The building systems, one solid and one hollow, are developed using an integrative approach that considers structural, fabrication and assembly requirements in the system design process.",

Recent building designs increasingly show punctual supports but with narrow column grid layouts.
Support beams and narrow grids limit the design space for multi-storey timber buildings. To overcome these design limits, an integrative design concept for punctually supported timber slabs is being developed that allows for large spans and irregular column layouts.
