Even though performance\nmeasurements carried out by the JPEG committee indicated that the PSNR\nperformance of HDPhoto is competitive, the visual performance of HDPhoto\nshowed notable deficits, both in subjective and objective tests. This paper\nintroduces various techniques that improve the visual performance of HDPhoto\nwithout leaving the current codestream definition. Objective measurements\nperformed by the author indicate that the modified encoder, while staying\nbackwards compatible to the current standard proposition, improves visual\nperformance significantly, and the performance of the modified encoder is\nsimilar to JPEG.",
