It transfers the\r\n well-known world map metaphor to molecular visualization. Our\r\n application maps the complex molecular surface to a simple 2D\r\n representation through a spherical intermediate, the Molecular Surface\r\n Globe. The Molecular Surface Map concisely shows arbitrary attributes of\r\n the original molecular surface, such as biochemical properties or\r\n geometrical features. This results in an intuitive overview, which\r\n allows researchers to assess all molecular surface attributes at a\r\n glance. Our representation can be used as a visual summarization of a\r\n molecule's interface with its environment. In particular, Molecular\r\n Surface Maps simplify the analysis and comparison of different data sets\r\n or points in time. Furthermore, the map representation can be used in a\r\n Space-time Cube to analyze time-dependent data from molecular\r\n simulations without the need for animation. We show the feasibility of\r\n Molecular Surface Maps for different typical analysis tasks of\r\n biomolecular data.","annote":"","author":[{"family":"Krone","given":"Michael"},{"family":"Friess","given":"Florian"},{"family":"Scharnowski","given":"Katrin"},{"family":"Reina","given":"Guido"},{"family":"Fademrecht","given":"Silvia"},{"family":"Kulschewski","given":"Tobias"},{"family":"Pleiss","given":"Juergen"},{"family":"Ertl","given":"Thomas"}],"citation-label":"ISI:000395537600073","collection-editor":[],"collection-title":"","container-author":[],"container-title":"IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON VISUALIZATION AND COMPUTER GRAPHICS","documents":[],"edition":"","editor":[],"event-date":{"date-parts":[["{2017}","JAN"]],"literal":"{2017}"},"event-place":"10662 LOS VAQUEROS CIRCLE, PO BOX 3014, LOS ALAMITOS, CA 90720-1314 USA","id":"98a2828e8a2dc017a7c501402b780956puma","interhash":"d62f1139f1dbc5e437cf7e27f42cc017","intrahash":"98a2828e8a2dc017a7c501402b780956","issue":"1","issued":{"date-parts":[["{2017}","JAN"]],"literal":"{2017}"},"keyword":"from:jmueller test api","misc":{"language":"{English}","affiliation":"{Krone, M (Reprint Author), Univ Stuttgart, Visualizat Res Ctr VISUS, Stuttgart, Germany.
