Studies have shown that humans respond differently to this, with some being appreciative of their advice (algorithm appreciation), others being averse toward them (algorithm aversion), and others still fully relinquishing control to artificial agents without adequate oversight (automation bias). Using systems thinking, we analyze the existing literature on these phenomena and develop a conceptual model that provides an underlying structural explanation for their emergence. In doing so, we create a powerful visual tool that can be used to ground discussions about the impact artificial agents have on organizations and humans within them.","annote":"","author":[{"family":"Ðula","given":"Ivan"},{"family":"Berberena","given":"Tabea"},{"family":"Keplinger","given":"Ksenia"},{"family":"Wirzberger","given":"Maria"}],"citation-label":"dula2023hooked","collection-editor":[],"collection-title":"","container-author":[],"container-title":"Frontiers in Behavioral Economics","documents":[],"edition":"","editor":[],"event-date":{"date-parts":[["2023"]],"literal":"2023"},"event-place":"","id":"35a2e1c8c96e1ff7fffaf8af1b87f059mariawirzberger","interhash":"a4b58408db5b62e5283e2786b64298db","intrahash":"35a2e1c8c96e1ff7fffaf8af1b87f059","issue":"","issued":{"date-parts":[["2023"]],"literal":"2023"},"keyword":"myown iris simtech reflection AI automation systems bias organization llis algorithm","misc":{"doi":"10.3389/frbhe.2023.1223281"},"note":"","number":"","page":"1223281","page-first":"1223281","publisher":"","publisher-place":"","status":"","title":"Hooked on artificial agents: a systems thinking perspective","type":"article-journal","username":"mariawirzberger","version":"","volume":"2"},"4ab373b3951cb18a5f9702118a34d49delkepeter":{"DOI":"10.1016/j.nonrwa.2015.03.008","ISBN":"","ISSN":"1468-1218","URL":"https://doi.org/10.1016/j.nonrwa.2015.03.008","abstract":"\"An investigation of the free boundary value problem arising from the modelling of electrostatically actuated microelectromechanical systems with general permittivity is presented. Consisting of a parabolic evolution problem for the displacement of a membrane as well as of an elliptic moving boundary problem for the electric potential between the membrane and a rigid ground plate, the system is shown to be well-posed locally in time for all values λ of the applied voltage. It is in addition verified that the solution exists even globally in time, provided that the applied voltage does not exceed a certain critical value λ∗. Furthermore, we establish the convergence of the solution of the free boundary problem towards the solution of the small-aspect ratio model, as the aspect ratio tends to zero.''","annote":"","author":[{"family":"Lienstromberg","given":"Christina"}],"citation-label":"MR3351019","collection-editor":[],"collection-title":"","container-author":[],"container-title":"Nonlinear Anal. We use integral quadratic constraints (IQCs) for describing the uncertainty blocks in the system. For technical reasons related to the feedforward problem, throughout the paper, we work with the duals of the constraints involved in robustness analysis using IQCs. We obtain a convex solution to the problem using a state-space characterization of nominal stability that we have developed recently. Specifically, our solution consists of LMI conditions for the existence of a feedforward controller that guarantees a given L(2)-gain for the closed-loop system. We demonstrate the effectiveness of using dynamic IQCs in robust feedforward design through a numerical example.
