It focuses on the practicalorientations, guiding expectations and selection criteria shaping expertise inprocesses of science policy consulting. In doing so, two perspectives will bediscussed: first the orientation of the knowledge production process by dif-ferent concepts of ‘‘usable knowledge.’’ Second, the influence of specificconstellations on different stages of the political process, which shape theinstitutional conditions for the transfer and the use of scientific knowledgewithin the policy consulting process.
