Abstract

Ru2(bpy)4(m-L)(PF6)3 (I; bpy = 2,2'-bipyridine; H2L = Et2 azodicarbonate) was prepd. from cis-Ru(bpy)2Cl2.2H2O, H2L and KPF6 in refluxing ClCH2CH2Cl and was characterized by elemental anal., cyclic voltammetry, ESR, XPS, and electronic spectral methods. The comproportionation const. is 4.4 $\times$ 108. An ESR spectrum (rhombic, no hyperfine structure) was observable only $łeq$50 K. Spectral comparisons of I and (H3N)5Ru(pyz)Ru(NH3)55+ (pyz = pyrazine) show that I is an electronic intermediate between a metal-centered mixed-valence complex and a ligand-centered radical complex. on SciFinder(R)
