$\mu$-Analysis of Stability Margin Criteria

Abstract

In this chapter $\mu$-analysis is applied to HIRM+RIDE using Trends and Bands type linear fractional transformation (LFT) based uncertainty models. An LFT representation for the stability margin criterion using Padée approximations is developed. Different general analyses are performed, such as tests for parametric interdependencies, decreased size of intervals for AoA and $\mu$ assessments treating Mach number and altitude as uncertain parameters. An optimisation based skew $\mu$ calculation is developed which avoids the risk of missing steep $\mu$ peaks, which has proven to be essential for problems with pure real value parameters. Both singleloop and multi-loop stability margin criteria are assessed for lateral and longitudinal dynamics.
