Si difluoride (SiF2) is highly unstable at room temp. and condenses at this temp. rapidly to a polymeric material of unknown structure. Therefore, the isolation of a stable monomeric Si difluoride species is a challenging task. The cyclic alkyl(amino) carbene (cAAC) coordinated Si difluoride was isolated as (cAAC)2SiF2 (2), synthesized from the redn. of cAAC-SiF4 (1) by using two equiv. of KC8 in the presence of one equiv. of cAAC. In the solid state, compd. 2 is stable at room temp. for a long time under inert conditions. The redn. of compd. 1 in the presence of one equiv. KC8 resulted in the 1st stable Si trifluoride monoradical (cAAC)SiF3 (3). on SciFinder(R)
