Abstract

Concepts have been developed which favor low-energy absorption in the near-IR (NIR) region. These include metal-metal charge transfer (inter-valence charge transfer) transitions of mixed-valent species, radical ion compds. (anions, cations), and mixts. thereof. Recent examples from ruthenium coordination chem. are presented in order to illustrate anal. and assignment of such NIR transitions. on SciFinder(R)
