Radical ions. 48. Radical anions as intermediates in the reductive desulfurization of tertiary phosphine sulfides

, , , and . Chemische Berichte, 115 (4): 1265--1277 (1982)

Abstract

Dimethylthiophosphinyl groups, -P(S)Me2, act as acceptor substituents toward p systems. According to cyclic voltammograms, the 1-electron acquisition often proceeds quasi-reversibly. Thus, radical anions of PhR, m-R2C6H4, p-RC6H4C6H4R-p, E-PhCH:CHR R = Ph(S)Me2, 2,5-bis(dimethylthiophosphinyl)thiophene, and 1,4-bis(dimethylthiophosphinyl)naphthalene were detected and identified by their ESR spectra. Further redn. leads to desulfurization. on SciFinder(R)
