Abstract

It is expected that data-driven methods of artificial intelligence in the context of Industry 4.0 will shape the future of industrial manufacturing. Although the topic is very present in research, the extent of the actual use of these methods remains unclear. This article therefore analyzes scientific articles published between 2013 and 2018 to obtain statistical data on the use of artificial intelligence methods in industry. Special attention is paid to the types of training and evaluation data, the distribution in different industrial branches, the considered use cases and the geographical origin of these articles. The resulting findings are distilled into practical advice for decision-makers.
