Design and optimization of a switched reluctance machine (SRM) as a near-wheel motor is covered in this paper. The requirement analysis and design approach for the motor are systematically explained. For an optimal motor design, a generic algorithm is used. The methodic is kept generic so that it can be applied to different types of electric vehicle.
