This paper reports on methods and implementations related to structuredfeedback of process data to increase the availability of reliable processknowledge in small batch manufacturing environments. The presented approachaims at acquiring process data in CNCs and simulation environments dependingon the respective machining situation in actual machining or derived fromsimulated machine behaviour to increase data availability, identify systematiceffects and improve machine tool models. Based on a characterisation ofprocess data sources and architectures of commercial CNCs, an uniform approachto extend the process chain for CNC manufacturing is presented. It relies onthe development of CNC-integrated algorithms, communication interfaces and aSTEP-NC-based data model. Approaches to utilize the developed infrastructurefor machine tool selection and process parameterization in small batchmanufacturing processes are illustrated. The system is implemented for twodifferent CNCs, one with open NC kernel and another with a comprehensivehigh-level PLC interface.
