Abstract

Due to decreasing product life cycles, modern production facilities requirerapid adaptation to new requirements. In addition, easier maintainability iscalled for in order to achieve a higher availability. This can be accomplished by means of modular, reconfigurable machines andfacilities. For this purpose, machine modules with new system boundaries haveto be designed as mechatronic and self-sustaining units to achievereconfigurable machining systems. Thus new generations of machineconfigurations must be created, which are characterised by both, theirmodularity and also by the functional seclusiveness of their modules. In this article, in line with a research study, the analysis of interfaces fornew mechatronic autonomous modules is developed, which will result in newmodular machine concepts. The new concepts are firstly applied on a transfer line where the machinesrepresent the modules and secondly on machining centre where machinecomponents are defined as modules. Thereby it is proven that by integration offunctions and by setting new system boundaries, mechatronic autonomous modulesare developable.
