Abstract

We report on the design, manufacturing and characterization of first generation large-area, high efficiency and high damage threshold pulse compression gratings (PCG) based on fully dielectric mirrors composed of Ta2O5 and SiO2 layers. The PCG were developed within the EU project Hiperdias in order to compresses pulses at kW-Class average output power and mJ pulse energy. The achieved diffraction efficiency at 1030 nm was > 99% for an area of 40 x 35 mm with a total grating size of 75 mm x 50 mm.
